Mr. Nazar Haitham: Spokesperson for the Southern Transitional Council

Mr. Nazar Haitham, spokesperson for the Southern Transitional Council (STC), updates us on why the STC declared self-governance after previously signing the power-sharing Riyadh Agreement, negotiated between the STC and Yemen’s Saudi-backed government. He also discusses whether the conflict engulfing Yemen for the last five years has been a civil war, and whether there is a way forward that can bring all Yemenis, both northerners and southerners, stability and peace. Mr. Haitham additionally comments on the role of the international community and non-governmental organizations in light of the growing number of COVID-19 cases in Yemen.
